Established by order of the President on 28 MAY 2004, creating the Afghanistan Campaign Medal
which will now be awarded to members of the US uniformed services who serve or have served in
Afghanistan or contiguous air space, on or after 24 OCT 2001 and to a date to be determined.
Upon application, a member may be awarded the Afghanistan Campaign Medal
in lieu of the Global War of Terrorism Expeditionary Medal for service in Afghanistan.
No member shall be entitled to the award of more than one of these two medals for the same period of service.
